Caring for your smile does not stop after Invisalign®, maintaining your new smile requires retention. Understanding that many people do not realize the great importance of wearing retainers, Dr. William Whittle and his team at Whittle Dentistry in Benbrook, TX, offer patients this brief introduction to the dental appliance:
Always wear your retainer. Retainers are typically worn fulltime for a fixed amount of time, followed by INDEFINITE nightwear for the rest of your life. Wearing your retainer will keep your teeth looking their best for a lifetime. Also noteworthy, like Invisalign®, retainers are removable. When removing your retainer, always put it in your plastic retainer case, clean it as instructed and replace it immediately if it’s lost or broken.
If you notice your teeth beginning to move contact us immediately. Again, maintaining your new smile requires wearing your retainer as directed. It is extremely disappointing when teeth move back to their original position as a result of no or poor retainer wear. If movements are minor, retainers may be able to regain correction. If the relapse or shifting is too severe, retreatment may be necessary. Dr. Whittle is here to help with any problems – call the team at Whittle Dentistry immediately when the problem first begins at 817.249.5522 for an evaluation appointment.
Retainers are something new and different and a period of adjustment to them is to be expected. Again, like Invisalign®, retainers are the tightest during the first few days. Should you experience any discomfort, have you retainer adjusted immediately rather than just not wearing it.
